Rohit Sharma should take a break for a few matches: Sunil Gavaskar

New Delhi (IANS) | Former India great Sunil Gavaskar said that Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma should take a break from the ongoing IPL for a few matches and focus on the World Test Championship final. Rohit had another bad day on Tuesday when he got out for two in eight balls against Gujarat Titans. Gujarat Titans won the match by 55 runs.

The MI skipper hasn’t found much success with the bat this season. He has so far scored just 181 runs in seven matches at an average of 25.86 and a strike rate of 135.07. He has been dismissed between 20 and 45 on four occasions. His highest score of 65 was his only fifty this season which came against Delhi Capitals.

Speaking on Star Sports after the match, Gavaskar suggested Rohit to take a break for a few matches in the IPL and come back in the latter stages of the tournament to be in rhythm for the WTC final.

Gavaskar said, I would like to see some changes in the batting order for Mumbai Indians. To be honest, I would also say that Rohit should also take a break for some time and keep himself fit for the World Test Championship final.

He just looks a little worried. Maybe he’s thinking about the WTC final, I don’t know. He should take a break of three or four matches so that he can get in shape for the World Test Championship final.

This season has been up and down for MI. Losing their first two matches, they again lost two matches after winning three matches in a row.

Mumbai Indians are seventh on the table with three wins from seven matches.

On Mumbai’s performance, Gavaskar said the franchise needs some miracle to help them qualify for the playoffs.

Gavaskar said, only a miracle can get them qualified for the IPL playoffs. The way they are at the moment, yes, they can finish at number four, but they will have to play some exceptional cricket, both with the bat and the bowling.
