Patna. A controversy has erupted over a video posted on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Facebook page that allegedly contains abusive and derogatory remarks against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Danish Iqbal, the state BJP’s media in-charge, has lodged a complaint at the Kotwali police station regarding this matter. He has demanded action against several individuals, including RJD leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav.
On Saturday, the BJP leader submitted a formal complaint at the Kotwali police station, alleging that a video posted on the RJD’s official Facebook page used offensive language against the BJP and its leaders. He has demanded legal action regarding this video.
Demand for action against Tejashwi Yadav and others
In his complaint, Danish Iqbal has named Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, Kamlesh Yadav, and individuals associated with a YouTube channel as accused parties. He has urged the police to investigate the matter and take appropriate action against those found guilty.
The BJP leader stated that while political opposition is one thing, the use of derogatory language and abusive comments against any party or leader cannot be tolerated. He alleged that disseminating such content via social media sends a negative message to society and could vitiate the political atmosphere.
Police promise action after investigation
Kotwali Station House Officer (SHO) Ajay Kumar confirmed receipt of the complaint. He stated that an application had been received from the BJP leader and the police are investigating the matter. Further action will be taken based on the facts that emerge during the investigation.
The police have not yet reported the registration of an FIR against anyone. Officials stated that the allegations made in the complaint and the video in question will be examined first.
Controversy over social media post
Heated exchanges between political parties on social media are not new, but controversies often arise over the use of offensive language. All parties keep a close watch on videos and comments posted on social media platforms, especially during election periods or active political phases.
In this instance, the BJP has raised objections against the RJD and demanded police intervention. Following the complaint, the police will now investigate to determine who posted the video and whether the language and content used violate any regulations.
BJP Stresses Limits on Freedom of Expression
BJP leaders maintain that while all parties in a democracy have the right to express their views, it is essential to uphold decorum in language despite political differences. Danish Iqbal alleged that the video posted on the RJD’s Facebook page crossed the boundaries of legitimate political opposition.
He has urged the police to take strict action against those disseminating such content on social media to prevent a recurrence of such incidents in the future.
Awaiting RJD’s Response
There has been no official response from the RJD regarding this matter so far. The complaint has sparked intense discussion within political circles, and a war of words between the two parties over this issue is likely to escalate in the coming days.
For now, the police have taken up the complaint for investigation. Only after the investigation concludes will the veracity of the allegations be established and the nature of further legal action determined.
Controversies regarding the use of social media by political parties have arisen frequently in the past. In such instances, police and investigative agencies determine whether the post or video in question falls within the ambit of the law. The situation in this case, too, will become clear only after the police investigation is complete.
