Registrar and assistant arrested for bribery at Namakkal Deeds Registry Office

Tamil Nadu: In a major crackdown on corruption in Namakkal district, the Anti-Corruption Branch police on Tuesday arrested a Registrar of Deeds and his assistant for accepting bribes. This action has caused a stir in the administrative department.
According to reports, the incident occurred at the Registrar-2 Deeds Office, located near the Taluk Office on Namakkal-Mohanur Road. Lorry owner and driver Sundararajan (60) had arrived to register a settlement deed for one of his properties. His intention was to register his property documents.
It is alleged that Registrar Manoharan (47) and his assistant Satish (38) demanded a bribe of ₹50,000 to proceed with the process. The two officials allegedly promised to register the documents without any hassle if he paid the bribe.
Complainant Sundararajan stated that he was initially surprised by the demand, but later agreed to pay ₹30,000 during a discussion. However, he took the matter seriously and decided to report it to the Anti-Corruption Department.
Following this, the Anti-Corruption Branch police conducted a planned operation and arrested both accused red-handed on Tuesday. Following the arrest, both officers were detained and further interrogation has begun.
According to police officials, preliminary investigations have revealed that employees working in a government office were demanding unauthorized money in exchange for services, which clearly falls under the ambit of corruption. Further investigation is underway to determine whether such activities have occurred previously.
This incident has sparked outrage among local residents. People say that ensuring transparency and accountability in government offices is crucial so that ordinary citizens do not face unnecessary inconvenience.
The incident has also been taken seriously at the administrative level. Officials have indicated that necessary departmental action will be taken after a detailed investigation.
This action by the Anti-Corruption Department is being considered a major success, strengthening efforts to curb bribery in government offices.
