Ranchi: Jharkhand to showcase Tasar silk production in Republic Day parade

Ranchi: Jharkhand’s photograph depicting the famous white gold production in the Santhal Pargana region was selected for the Republic Day display in New Delhi, an official said on Saturday. He said Jharkhand is among the 16 states and union territories whose ranks have been selected for the January 26 parade. In a post on the social networking site, Minister Hemant Soren said, “The country will know what is the meaning of Dumka and Godda seats of Jharkhand.” Dumka’s Art, Culture and Sports Director Tufan Kumar Poddar told PTI that everything related to the production of gold coins will be depicted in the picture. There are four types of sedum: Morera, Eri, Munga and Tasar, he said, adding: “Morera, Eri and Munga are common and can be grown indoors, but Tasar is wild in nature”. 70 percent of the country’s tasar production takes place in Jharkhand, out of which 40 percent is produced in the Santhal Pargana region of the state. Let us tell you that a major part of silk Tasar is taken to Bhagalpur in Bihar, where the final product is manufactured. ‘After all, the final product is manufactured here under the Mayurakshi Silk brand. At the moment it is doing it on a small scale but we have decided to expand it’, he said. The Sarihan variety of Seda Tasar is found in Dumka district, BC Prasad, former director of Junta Central, Seda, told PTI. “Sarihan is the best variety of Tasar and its denier is 7,” he said. Other officials said the squad will be shortlisted on January 19 and will participate in trials on January 23.
