According to officials, the police had reached the Banas river area on Thursday night after receiving information about illegal sand mining. When the police tried to stop the illegal activity, the illegal sand miners attacked them and started pelting stones. Station House Officer (SHO) Suman Kumar confirmed the incident and said that one person has died in the clash. Kumar said that the deceased has been identified as Surgyan Meena, a resident of Bundi. Police said that the deceased’s brother Ramprasad Meena has alleged that DSP Vishnoi attacked Surgyan with an iron rod, leading to his instant death.

Ramprasad also claimed that the police failed to inform the family and quietly sent the body to the Sawai Madhopur mortuary, police said. Local villagers strongly condemned the incident and accused the police of misbehavior and suppression of facts. A large number of people gathered outside the Chauth Ka Barwara police station on Friday morning and demanded action against the DSP.
