Jaipur (IANS) | The Rajasthan government has issued an order that no religious flags will be allowed to be hoisted in any public place or school in Udaipur for the next two months.
District Collector Tarachand Meena said in his order that disciplinary action will be taken against those who violate the rules.
If sources are to be believed, these orders have been issued in view of the recent large gathering of Dhirendra Shastri in Udaipur and the arrest of five youths for hoisting the saffron flag at Kumbhalgarh Fort.
Though these youths have been released, the administration has issued orders saying that flags with religious symbols will not be allowed to be used in public places during religious processions and those who disobey these orders will be punished as per legal provisions. will be dealt with strictly. The order states that there is a possibility that law and order may deteriorate if these flags are hoisted in public places.
District Collector Meena, however, said the order had nothing to do with Shastri’s meeting and that he had planned to issue it before Shastri arrived in Udaipur.
Meanwhile, Udaipur MP (BJP) Diya Kumari termed the order as an attempt to violate the right of common people to religious freedom in the name of law and order.
He said, “This order of the Udaipur administration against the religious flag is the latest example of the appeasement policy of the Congress government in Rajasthan. It is an attempt to violate the right of common people to religious freedom in the name of law and order.”
Furthermore, the local people said, “It is the time of celebration, when people celebrate Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti with full enthusiasm. This is infringing on their right to celebrate festivals.”
Taking cognizance of Shastri’s statements and considering them to be inflammatory, an FIR was registered against him. He asked the assembly to replace the green flag with a saffron flag.
