For the first time, electric light will reach this remote ‘migration village’ situated near the India-China border. Villagers, who have lived in darkness for years, will welcome a new era of development alongside the arrival of electricity on Independence Day. The locals view this historic achievement as “freedom from darkness.”
Radgadi-Bugdiyar village in the Munsiyari region is located at an aerial distance of approximately 35 to 40 kilometers from the China border. Delivering basic amenities to this area had long been a challenge due to the rugged mountainous terrain and difficult geographical conditions. Even a fundamental facility like electricity had remained a distant dream for the villagers until now; however, that dream is finally becoming a reality.
According to reports, the work of laying power lines to the village has been completed, and a transformer has been installed. Technical preparations are nearly finished, and the system will be formally inaugurated on Independence Day. With the inauguration, electricity will reach the village homes for the first time, illuminating the entire area.
For the locals, this represents more than just an electricity connection; it marks the beginning of development, better amenities, and a brighter future. Until now, villagers had to rely on lanterns, oil lamps (dhibri), or solar lamps once dusk fell. Daily life became even more difficult during the monsoon and winter seasons due to the darkness. The arrival of electricity is expected to facilitate children’s studies and household chores, improve communication, and create new opportunities for small-scale self-employment.
Radgadi-Bugdiyar is known as a ‘migration village,’ where most residents move seasonally between high-altitude areas and lower-lying regions. Such villages situated in border areas also hold significant strategic importance. The government is continuously expanding basic amenities in these villages to curb the migration of local residents and ensure the population remains in these border areas.
Experts believe that extending facilities such as roads, electricity, drinking water, communication networks, and healthcare to border villages is crucial for national security. When residents of border areas have access to better living amenities, a permanent population is sustained, and the region becomes socially and economically stronger.
There is palpable enthusiasm among the villagers regarding Independence Day. Village elders recount living without electricity for years, never imagining that their village would one day receive a regular power supply. Meanwhile, the youth believe that the arrival of electricity will open doors to education, digital services, and new employment opportunities. Children will now have adequate light for their studies, and residents will no longer need to rely on other locations for basic needs like charging mobile phones and other electronic devices.
The arrival of electricity is also expected to strengthen future healthcare services in the village.
