Jharkhand: A major case of negligence has come to light from Pithoria Post Office located in Kanke block of the capital Ranchi, which has raised serious questions on the functioning of the entire postal department. After hundreds of government documents, ATM cards, court notices and other important papers were found sealed in sacks from the house of postman Vikas Kumar, the department has suspended him with immediate effect. According to the information, for the last one year the villagers of Pithoria area were not getting their important documents on time. After continuous complaints, the postal department started investigation. During the investigation, the team led by Inspector Deepak Kumar raided the house of the accused postman, from where a huge amount of pending mail was recovered. During the search, hundreds of Aadhar cards, PAN cards, bank passbooks, ATM cards, court summons and Income Tax Department notices were found in the sacks. All these documents were kept in the postman’s house for months and were not delivered to the concerned people. Due to this negligence the villagers had to face serious problems. Many people said that due to not receiving documents on time, they could not avail the benefits of government schemes, banking operations were affected and in many cases, they had to face legal problems and fines due to not receiving court notices on time. There is huge anger among the villagers regarding this incident. He says that this is not just negligence but a serious administrative failure. People have demanded that action against the postman alone is not enough, but the entire system should be investigated. The Postal Department has immediately suspended the accused employee and started a departmental inquiry. Officials say that if the involvement of any other employee or officer comes to light in this matter, then strict action will be taken against them also. Also, the department has announced to run a special campaign to distribute all the pending documents on priority basis. However, local people say that the loss cannot be compensated through action alone, and improvement in the system is necessary.
