Security agencies have obtained significant information during the interrogation of Misir Besra, a Politburo member of the CPI (Maoist) organization and a Naxal leader carrying a reward of ₹2.20 crore. During initial questioning, he admitted to working on a plan to revitalize the Maoist organization in the Parasnath region of Jharkhand. He was actively assisted in this campaign by ‘Mehnat’ (alias Mochhu/Vibhishan)—a Maoist with a ₹15 lakh reward on his head—and Area Committee member Gaurav (alias Birendra Hansda/Sauram).
According to security agencies, Misir Besra revealed crucial details regarding the organization’s activities and strategies during the interrogation held on Wednesday. He stated that the Maoist organization had suffered heavy losses in several areas of Jharkhand over the past few years due to sustained security operations, resulting in a significant weakening of the organization’s influence. A plan was devised to rebuild the organization from scratch in the forests of Parasnath and the surrounding areas to reverse this situation.
Investigative agencies believe that the rugged and dense forests of Parasnath have long been considered a sensitive zone for Maoist activities; hence, the organization sought to re-establish a strong foothold there. The interrogation revealed that the strategy involved recruiting local cadres, re-establishing contact with former members, and reactivating the organization’s network.
It also emerged that ‘Mehnat’ (alias Mochhu/Vibhishan), who carries a ₹15 lakh reward, played a pivotal role in this campaign. He was coordinating the organization’s activities at the local level and was actively engaged in efforts to recruit new members. Meanwhile, Area Committee member Gaurav (alias Birendra Hansda/Sauram) was tasked with strengthening the regional network and disseminating the organization’s message at the grassroots level.
Security agencies state that the strength of the Maoist organization has significantly diminished due to the continuous operations conducted in recent years. Several top commanders have been killed or arrested, while many members have surrendered. Against this backdrop, the organization was attempting to regain a foothold in its former strongholds; the Parasnath region is considered a crucial part of this strategy.
According to sources, investigative agencies are working to identify other active members of the organization, their potential hideouts, and their networks of contacts based on information obtained from Misir Besra. Security forces have stepped up surveillance in several areas following inputs from the interrogation, and preparations are underway to conduct search operations at suspected hideouts.
Officials believe that the information revealed during interrogation could prove vital in weakening the Maoist network.
