Punjab: Man facing 24 cases released on parole flees the country

Punjab: In a major intelligence failure, a notorious criminal, who has 24 cases registered against him including drug trafficking, has fled abroad. Gurpreet Singh alias Kishan Singh, a resident of Sheikhupur Jandiala, had recently come out on parole. He was lodged in Goindwal jail for nearly six years in a narcotics case. The incident came to light after the Jandiala police registered another FIR against him on Thursday.

According to information, Gurpreet got a passport on the basis of forged documents and claimed himself to be a resident of Mira Road, Thane, Maharashtra. Police have registered a case under sections 318(4), 337, 336(3) and 340(2) of the BNS and section 12 of the Indian Passport Act. Earlier, several gangsters, including Lakhbir Singh alias Landa Harike, Harpreet Singh alias Happy Pasiya, Manpreet Singh alias Maan Ghanshampuria and Jeevan Fauji, had managed to flee the country. Now they have become a big headache for the security agencies. They have reportedly joined hands with Pakistan-based terror organisations involved in smuggling of drugs and weapons across the border besides carrying out terror activities in Punjab.
