Punjab: Health Director informed about vacant posts in Civil Hospital

Punjab: Punjab Health Department Director Dr Anil Goyal today visited the 100-bed Civil Hospital in Abohar and was reminded of the vacant posts of gynaecologist, paediatrician, anaesthesia specialist and an orthopaedic surgeon. These posts are lying vacant despite repeated reminders by the district administration to the state headquarters. Local MLA Sandeep Jakhar and former MLA Arun Narang have also raised the issue with the concerned health ministers. During his visit, Fazilka Civil Surgeon Dr Lehimbar Ram and Senior Medical Officer Dr Neerja Gupta briefed the Director about the functioning of the hospital. Dr Goyal visited various sections of the hospital, including the X-ray room, laboratory, dispensary, wards and operation theatre.

He expressed satisfaction over the cleanliness and overall services and said that Abohar Civil Hospital is one of the only 5-7 hospitals in Punjab offering quality services. On his arrival, Dr Goyal was presented with a bouquet, which he immediately handed over to the sanitation staff and appreciated their work. A minor problem was found in the refrigerator of the blood bank, and the director directed immediate rectification. He also noticed long queues at the dispensary counter and ordered the appointment of additional staff to address the issue. While inspecting the hospital canteen, Dr Goyal found that beverages were being sold even after the expiry date. He ordered the destruction of these items and banned the sale of “sting cold drinks”. In addition, he directed the hospital to replace domestic LPG cylinders with commercial cylinders to ensure better safety and efficiency.
