Punjab: Municipal Corporation Ludhiana has finally taken steps to provide direct access to the ancestral house of martyr Sukhdev Thapar located in Naughra Mohalla. Following the demand being made by the family of the martyr for the last one decade, the corporation has approached the Additional Chief Secretary of the Local Bodies Department to approve compensation for the acquisition of 44.50 square yards of land. According to information, SDM-cum-Land Acquisition Collector, Ludhiana East has prepared an award of Rs 33.01 lakh for property acquisition. The officials have sought immediate release of the amount, so that the acquisition can be expedited. It is worth noting that the direct access path will enable people to reach the ancestral house of the martyr without any hassle. Currently, those who want to visit his house have to pass through narrow lanes. Only two-wheelers can reach there, but due to the direct access path, people can reach the house directly in four-wheelers by covering a distance of only 100 meters from Chaura Bazaar.
Sukhdev Thapar’s family had been struggling for direct access for more than a decade. The process was started during the previous Congress government, but the progress was slow. Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar Memorial Trust chairman Ashok Thapar expressed relief that the process was moving forward. He hoped that the authorities would remove all the hurdles, stressing that this is an opportunity not just for an individual but also for future generations to learn about the martyr’s contribution to the country’s freedom struggle. The development has brought joy to the martyr’s family, who have been working tirelessly to preserve the freedom fighter’s legacy. The direct access path will not only provide a convenient route to the ancestral house but will also help promote tourism and cultural awareness about the martyr’s life and contributions. Ashok Thapar further said that the Municipal Corporation’s decision to provide direct access to Sukhdev Thapar’s ancestral house is an important step towards preserving the history and cultural heritage of the area. It was hoped that this development work would have a positive impact on the local community and instill a sense of pride and ownership among the residents.
