Punjab: Cases of stubble burning have come down to single digit

Punjab: Incidents of stubble burning remained in single digits for the third consecutive day, with only five cases reported today. Two of these were reported in Amritsar, while one each in Fazilka, Ferozepur and Moga. The state had reported 26 cases of paddy stubble burning on October 1, 16 on October 2, eight on October 3 and nine on October 4. A significant drop of 72 per cent has been observed in stubble burning incidents in the state since September 15 as compared to the same period last year. A total of 193 incidents have been reported this year, while 754 incidents were recorded during the same period in 2023. Experts said paddy harvesting has been delayed due to rains in the last week of September and incidents of farm fires may increase once harvesting picks up pace.
