Punjab: Brigadier Gulia walked 1,25,000 steps to mark Infantry Day

Punjab: Brigadier Kuldeep Singh Gulia, a 75-year-old veteran of the Indian Army, on Saturday achieved a historic feat by walking 1,25,000 steps, i.e. a distance of about 114 km, to commemorate Infantry Day-2024. He started this journey with the aim of walking 1.25 lakh steps in Jaipur under the theme ‘Sava Lakh Se Ek Ladau’ in line with the true spirit of the Sikh Regiment. He started his journey at midnight along with the soldiers of the Sikh Regiment and civilian enthusiasts who walked with him at various places. He started from his home in Mahadev Nagar, then proceeded to pay homage in the traditional way at the Sikh Regiment Gurudwara, where he paid homage and saluted the brave at the War Memorial Prerana Sthal of South Western Command.

Special mention must be made of renowned ultra-marathon athlete Sher Singh. The fitness walkers include Shakti, Pooja, Rajneesh and soldiers of the Sikh Regiment, who accompanied Brigadier Gulia in his endeavour to spread the message of ‘Fit India’ to the youth and all countrymen. Brigadier Gulia, who turned 76 on October 28, dedicated his padyatra and life journey to Mother India, the Sikh Regiment and all the infantry soldiers. Brigadier Gulia exhorted citizens to join him in honouring the unparalleled courage and sacrifice of the Indian Army and the infantry soldiers. Brigadier Gulia commanded an infantry brigade 4 Sikh in Gandhi Nagar and was Deputy GOC of the Mountain Division in Bareilly. He has explored almost all the peaks and forts around Jaipur and Sariska, trekked across all the Indian Himalayan states trekking more than 60-70 kms in a single day on several occasions after the age of 70. He has authored several books including ‘Human Ecology of Sikkim’, ‘Origins of Disasters’ and contributed to 15 volumes of ‘Encyclopaedia of Himalayan Studies’ and five volumes of ‘Encyclopaedia of Human Ecology’.
