Punjab: In a tragic incident, 21 passengers travelling in a PRTC bus from Chandigarh to Bathinda were injured when the bus met with an accident near Bhawanigarh on Friday night. Two of them died while undergoing treatment at Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. The deceased have been identified as Gurpreet Kaur, resident of Tungwali village in Bathinda and Rajinder Kumar, resident of Bald Kalan village near Bhawanigarh. The accident occurred when a canter suddenly came in front of the bus and the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to go off the road.
Bhawanigarh Senior Medical Officer Dr Vinod Kumar said that 21 injured passengers have been admitted to the Community Health Centre. He said that two passengers were discharged after first aid, three people were referred to Sangrur Civil Hospital and 16 passengers to Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala. Bhawanigarh SHO Gurnam Singh said, “Out of the 16 passengers referred to Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, two people died.” He said that a case has been registered against the canter driver on the statement of the injured passengers.
