Knowledge of standards is essential for selection of quality construction materials: Arun Saav

Deputy Chief Minister and Public Works Minister Arun Saw today attended the capacity building program organized by the Bureau of Indian Standards for the engineers of the Public Works Department. This two-day program has been organized by the Raipur office of the Bureau of Indian Standards on August 6 and August 7 at Naveen Vishram Bhavan in Raipur. Subject experts from all over the country are giving information to the engineers about the new standards of materials and works used in different types of construction works in the program. Engineers from various districts of the Public Works Department are participating in it, including Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers and Assistant Engineers.

Deputy Chief Minister Arun Saw said in the capacity building program that it is important to stay updated with new standards and innovations amid constantly changing technologies, needs and research. As an engineer, knowledge of contemporary technical aspects and their new parameters is necessary. Good knowledge of these is very helpful in completing different types of construction works with quality. He thanked the Bureau of Indian Standards for organizing the capacity building program and said that this will increase the efficiency and capacity of our engineers.

Addressing the engineers, Deputy Chief Minister Saw said that in the construction industry, there are materials of different quality and price from different companies and suppliers. By having good knowledge of quality and standards, you can choose the right materials. It is your responsibility to ensure quality in the works being done under your supervision. For this, use certified materials as per the standards in construction works. Saw asked to take full advantage of this two-day capacity building program and update your information. He expressed hope that this will help the engineers of the Public Works Department in performing effective work at the workplace.

Chief Engineer of Public Works Department V.K. Bhatpahari said that this program has been organized by the Bureau of Indian Standards to make the engineers of the department aware of the standards and parameters prevalent in the country and the world. He said that every engineer should have complete knowledge of the standards as well as ensure their strict compliance in the field. He asked to increase the quality of construction works being done in the state by following the standards and parameters. Regional Director of Bureau of Indian Standards Mr. Suman Kumar Gupta and Scientist Mrs. Madhurima Madhav also addressed the participating engineers. Joint Director of Raipur office of Bureau of Indian Standards Falendra Kumar and other senior officers were also present in the program.

Information being given on standards of civil and electrical works and materials

In the two-day capacity building program, experts of Bureau of Indian Standards are giving information about the standards of civil and electrical works to the engineers of Public Works Department in different sessions. As resource persons in civil works, experts of Bureau of Indian Standards Mr. D.S. Dhapola, Dr. Aditya Pratap Sanyal, Dr. R.P. Devangan, Dr. Praveen Nigam and Dr. Lalit Kumar Gupta are giving information about new standards and parameters. Whereas in electrical works, Mr. Babul Chakraborty, Uma Shankar, Suhaskrishnan K.V. and Ms. Bhavana Kasturia are giving information about the standards.
