Padma Shri Award controversy in Orissa High Court: Two individuals claim legitimacy as true winners

Cuttack: The Padma Shri Award controversy has reached Orissa High Court after two individuals claimed legitimacy as true winners of the award.

Two people with the same name from Odisha have claimed that the Padma Shri Award announced in the field of literature is theirs. After the case reached the High Court, the bench of Dr. Justice Sanjiv Kumar Panigrahi has ordered both of them to appear in the High Court in person on the 24th February 2025.

In 2023, the name of Antarayami Mishra was announced for the Padma Shri Award for his achievements in the field of literature. A journalist named Antarayami Mishra received the award.

However, a doctor named Antarayami Mishra filed a petition in the High Court claiming that the person who received the award was not the real Antarayami Mishra. Rather he himself is the person who is the actual recipient of the award, he claimed.

This person has published 29 Odia books and books in other languages. In this regard, he filed this case on behalf of Antarayami Mishra, who has received the Padma Shri award from the Central Government.

The High Court expressed surprise during the hearing of the case regarding such claims, as all kinds of verification work was done by the state government before the announcement of the Padma Shri.

Therefore, both the persons have been summoned to appear in person in court with their respective literary works at 2 pm on 24th February.
