Odisha LoP Naveen Patnaik extends Nuakhai greetings

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday extended ‘Nuakhai’ greetings and conveyed his heartfelt wishes to the people of the State.

In a video message which the former Chief Minister released on the eve of the auspicious occasion of Nuakhai, he prayed for the blessings of Maa Samaleswari, wishing everyone happiness, prosperity, and well-being.

From the video, it is evident that the BJD president is doing well after his recent treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was admitted in the hospital after suffering from dehydration but was discharged approximately after 77 hours (or just over three days).

Nuakhai, an agrarian, festival is mainly observed by people of Western Odisha to welcome the new rice of the season. Every year the dates get changed as it is observed on panchami tithi of the lunar fortnight of the month of Bhadrapada or Bhadraba, the day after the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.

As per the tithi, this year the Nuakhai festival falls on August 28 (Thursday). It has been already announced a public holiday in Odisha. Apart from this the State government also announced August 29 holiday for all the government offices, all schools, colleges and universities across the state.
