Dehradun: The time of facing the entire locality due to power cut amid huge demand of electricity is about to end. Now your power cut will be in your hands. Consumers who spend more electricity than the standard will get deduction directly from UPCL headquarters. For this, smart prepaid electricity meters will start being installed from the month of May.
Under the Smart Prepaid Metering Scheme, prepaid meters will be installed at the homes of 15 lakh 87 thousand 870 electricity consumers of the state. It will start from the month of May in Dehradun in Garhwal division and Haldwani in Kumaon division. Its control room will be built in UPCL headquarters. Each electricity meter can be monitored separately.
UPCL will send warning message first
After the meter is installed, it will be recharged, out of which the power will be deducted as per the consumption on the lines of mobile. The special thing is that every month’s electricity bill will be calculated. All disputes related to duration or fees of bills will end. Consumers will not even have to pay security amount.
The security amount already deposited will be returned. After the recharge is over, power will be supplied for a period and after that it will be automatically cut off. All the traditions of connecting, disconnecting electricity connections, taking meter readings, delivering bills and penalty for delay in bill payment will also end with this.
In the coming time, all consumers will not have to face power cuts simultaneously. With smart prepaid meter, the electricity department will know which consumer is using more electricity than prescribed. In such a situation, UPCL will first send a warning message to that particular consumer and then start cutting power.
Only the transformers of the localities will tell where theft is happening.
With the smart prepaid meter it will be known in which locality electricity is being consumed more than the allotted load. Electricity theft will also be detected, on the basis of which UPCL officers will be able to take immediate action.
