Bhilai. Around 11 a.m. today, the body of a newborn was found floating in the Sanjay Nagar drain, right alongside the National Highway. This drain passes through Sanjay Nagar. A crowd of people gathered on the drain’s banks upon seeing the newborn’s body.
Supela police arrived at the scene and retrieved the newborn’s body, revealing it to be a boy. People suspect this act may have been done to conceal an illicit relationship. Police believe the baby was thrown away immediately after birth because the umbilical cord wasn’t properly cut.
After recovering the newborn’s body from the drain, a case was registered and the body was sent to the mortuary for a post-mortem. Eyewitnesses say that CCTV cameras are installed in most areas of this ward, allowing the police to easily identify those who committed such a heinous crime. People said those who committed such a heinous crime should be severely punished.
