NC Working Committee meeting resumes in Srinagar, resolution expected to be passed

Srinagar, November 28: The ruling National Conference (NC)’s powerful Working Committee meeting resumed here on Friday, and the party is expected to pass some resolutions at the end of the second day. The two-day meeting began on Thursday and discussed important party matters, public issues, ongoing political activities, and other matters of organizational importance. An NC leader said the Working Committee meeting resumed on Friday morning under the leadership of party president Farooq Abdullah. Party vice president and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was also present.
The NC leader said the discussions at the meeting aimed to strengthen the party’s outreach, review current developments, and plan future action. The meeting comes amid the NC’s recent defeat in the Budgam and Nagrota assembly by-elections and the party’s ongoing differences with its Lok Sabha MP from Srinagar, Ruhullah Mehdi.
In a blow to the isolated MP, the NC did not invite Mehdi to the Working Committee meeting, of which he has been a permanent member since 2002. According to an NC leader, Thursday’s discussion also addressed Mehdi’s differences with the party and his criticism of the government. He said that several party members who were unable to speak on the first day of the meeting would speak on Friday. “After that, some resolutions will be made and some decisions will be taken in the meeting,” the leader said.
