Nagaland: The office of the Ao Students Conference (AKM) has expressed its “deep concern” and condemned the incident of abduction of two true members of its community from Diphupar on October 10, 2024. The AKM condemned the extortion demand made on them by members of the NSCN (Niki) and described this act of violence as “a grave violation of human rights and unbecoming of national activists”.
In a statement, the AKM reaffirmed its commitment to “stand in full solidarity with the victims” and supported the urgent appeal of Dimapur-based Naga youth organisations for justice. “We strongly condemn any form of violence directed against anyone and urge the relevant authorities to take stern action against those responsible before the situation worsens,” the organisation said. The AKM vowed to “pursue the case till justice is served and the culprits are punished”.
Further, the Ao Students Conference called on Naga national groups to “respect the democratic rights of the people” and refrain from activities that could escalate tensions within the state. The AKM condemned the incidents of intimidation, saying, “These incidents of intimidation and criminal tactics such as kidnapping and extortion are a threat to the safety and livelihood of innocent civilians and the business community.” “We will not recognise, nor will we tolerate, any national group terrorising our communities,” it declared, questioning their legitimacy and principles while highlighting whether they are working for national interest or personal gain.
The organisation also urged the state government and relevant authorities to ensure the safety of citizens across Nagaland.
In line with the call of the Dimapur-based Naga Youth Organisation, the AKM reaffirmed its support and appealed to the public to “remain united in these critical times in support of justice and protection of our rights.”
