Mumbai: Dense smog covered the entire city, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching the severe category in Vikhroli, Chembur, and other areas.

Maharashtra: On February 1, 2026, residents across the city woke up to a cold and foggy Sunday morning as smog enveloped several parts of Mumbai, significantly reducing visibility and renewing concerns about the city’s worsening air pollution problem, which has persisted since the beginning of winter.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted clear skies throughout the day, with temperatures expected to range between 21°C and 31°C. While temperatures have remained relatively stable over the past week, air quality has fluctuated sharply, raising serious health concerns for residents. According to data from AQI.in, Mumbai’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) on Sunday morning was 308, placing it in the ‘Severe’ category. This is a significant deterioration compared to the previous evening, when the AQI had dropped to 184 (‘Poor’) around 6:30 pm, offering residents some temporary relief.
