Bengaluru: A social activist who filed a petition against Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah in the Mysore Urban Development Authority (Muda) land allotment case has landed in trouble. Snehamai Krishna has been arrested by the Bengaluru Crime Branch police. (activist arrested) However, the reasons for his arrest are not known. Krishna has accused Siddaramaiah, his wife Parvathy and some associates of committing irregularities in the allotment of residential plots in Mysore. He questioned the legality of the allotment of compensation plots to Parvathy in exchange for the disputed land in Kesare village and the right to that land. He complained that these irregularities have caused financial loss to the state exchequer.
Meanwhile, Krishna’s allegations and complaints were investigated by the Lokayukta and several statutory bodies. However, he moved a special court challenging the Lokayukta’s closure of the case. In January this year, the special court rejected Krishna’s petition. It upheld the Lokayukta’s verdict that there was insufficient evidence to continue the investigation against Siddaramaiah and others.
On the other hand, the commission headed by retired judge P.N. Desai also recommended action against only a few officials responsible for procedural irregularities. The Karnataka cabinet approved the report. This gave relief to CM Siddaramaiah and his family from the Lokayukta and commission inquiries.
