MP: On Republic Day, 27 bison were translocated to Bandhavgarh after the completion of the second phase.

Madhya Pradesh: The second phase of shifting bison from Satpura Tiger Reserve to Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve was successfully completed on Monday.
Under the translocation program, a total of 27 bison were shifted to Bandhavgarh. The bison from Satpura were translocated to improve the genetic quality of the existing bison population in Bandhavgarh.
The bison translocation project began on January 22 under the “Population Management Strategies for Gaur (Bison): Supplementation of Bison in Bandhavgarh” program.
More than 150 officials from Satpura and over 60 officials from Bandhavgarh participated in this operation. In the second phase of the translocation, a total of five male and 22 female bison were shifted from Satpura to Bandhavgarh.
Since the distance between Satpura and Bandhavgarh is 593 km, shifting the bison was a challenging task.
To assist the translocation team in handling any emergencies along the way, a team of wildlife veterinarians also traveled with the team.
The health of the bison was checked before and after the translocation. All the translocated bison were released into the bison enclosure in Bandhavgarh. On Sunday, six bison were shifted to Bandhavgarh in a specially designed vehicle.
