Surajpur. A villager returning to Madhya Pradesh through the forest was crushed to death by elephants on Saturday evening in Chandni-Biharpur area of Surajpur district. On Sunday, the mutilated body of a villager was found in a swampy forest. The mental condition of the villager was not good. When his family members reached the forest in search of him, they found his dead body lying there. Seeing the dead body, it became clear that the elephants had knocked him down and crushed him to death. According to the information, Mayaram Nai (55), resident of village Malgo under Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh, had gone missing from home for the last few days. His mental condition was bad for some days. When he was seen in Mohersop on Friday 16th February, his family got information. The family members had come to village Moharsop in Chandni-Biharpur area on Saturday in search of him.
When he was not found in Mohersop, the family members reached the forest in search of him. Family members found Mayaram’s crushed body in the forest. This information was given to Mohersop police post. On Sunday, forest staff and police force led by Odgi Forest SDO Manoj Kumar Shah, Odgi Ranger Mewa Lal Patel reached the spot. The body has been handed over to the relatives after postmortem. Even the villagers of Mohersop generally do not go to the swampy forest where the dead body of the villager was found. Due to the availability of water there, elephants often come down from the forest. Ranger Mewa Lal Patel told that a group of elephants was present there since two days ago. From the condition of the body it seems that it has been crushed by a group of elephants.
