Chandigarh (IANS) | The Punjab Police on Friday conducted simultaneous raids on the hideouts of anti-social elements and persons involved in crimes. Arpit Shukla, Special DGP, Law and Order, said that the day-long operation was carried out simultaneously across the state and all CPs and SSPs, at least one per police station, were asked to inquire about the whereabouts of these persons. The DGP said that 450 police teams (comprising of over 3,000 policemen) have raided the premises of at least 4,171 persons with criminal records.
The Special DGP said that the purpose of carrying out this operation is to know the whereabouts of such people, besides ensuring that they return to the mainstream.
He said that the police teams have also interrogated the family members of the persons involved in the crimes and checked bank transactions, western union and property details from abroad. He said that the police teams have also checked the vehicles parked in their premises and verified their registration numbers using Vahan mobile app.
