Mahasamund. Bio medical waste from hospitals has been dumped openly on the side of National Highway, due to which humans as well as other animals can fall prey to serious diseases. Social workers are calling it serious negligence and demanding strict action against those responsible, while the health staff is assuring action after getting information about the matter. Bio medical waste from hospitals has been dumped openly in about 40-50 packets on the side of the road on National Highway 353, just 5 km from the district headquarters. This includes bandages used during treatment, syringes, empty bottles of medicines and drips, masks, hand gloves, plaster bandages, medical waste generated during operations.
This medical waste is stinking so much that passersby are forced to close their nose and mouth. This bio medical waste has been lying there for almost a week, but the health department is not aware of this. As per the rules, government and private hospital management cannot throw medical waste in the open. Either it will be given to the SMS company set by the government or as per the set criteria, it will be decomposed by digging two separate pits, Sharp Pit or Deep Pit. But here, flouting the rules, the hospital management is openly throwing it on the roadside. In this case, Dr. Chhatrapal Chandrakar, Nodal Officer of Nursing Act of Health Department, says that such an act is against the rules. The matter will be investigated, and strict action will be taken against those found guilty. This type of bio-medical waste has a bad effect on human health.
