Jagdalpur. Amidst the hustle and bustle of Lok Sabha elections, a big political incident took place in Jagdalpur on Wednesday. In the presence of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, Jagdalpur Municipal Corporation Mayor Safira Sahu along with about 2500 Congress workers and 6 councilors joined the BJP.
BJP candidate Mahesh Kashyap filed his nomination from Bastar Lok Sabha seat. Before this, Mayor Safira Sahu and six councilors joined BJP along with about 2500 workers in the election meeting held at the city’s Mission Ground in the presence of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai. With this, BJP has come into majority in the corporation with 48 councillors. Till yesterday, there were 29 councilors of Congress and 19 of BJP in the corporation.
This historic event in the history of Jagdalpur has happened at a time when former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel is also holding an election meeting in the city today. Experts say that due to factionalism within the Congress, a large number of parties are changing sides. Before Jagdalpur, a large number of Congress workers had joined BJP in Chief Minister Sai’s Lohandiguda meeting and Bastar Assembly meeting also.
