Junagadh. Maulana Mufti Salman Azhari, who gave an inflammatory speech in Junagadh, Gujarat, has been detained by Gujarat ATS. Maulana was caught from Ghatkopar area of Mumbai. A case has been registered against Mufti Salman Azhari under sections 153A, 505, 188, 114. Junagadh Police has also arrested two more people in this case. On hearing the news of Maulana’s arrest on Sunday, a large number of people had gathered outside the police station. Gujarat ATS will take Maulana from Mumbai to Junagadh.
Mumbai-based Islamic preacher Mufti Salman Azhari had addressed the program held at a ground near ‘B’ Division police station here on the night of January 31. During the address, Mufti had said – There is silence for some time and then there will be noise, today is the time of dogs, tomorrow our turn will come. This statement of Mufti went viral. After this the police had registered an FIR in this matter.
Mufti of Mumbai has given clarification on the police action on social media platform. It has been written on behalf of Azhari that BJP’s national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi has tweeted on our statement and said that we work to spread hatred against Hindus. There is a poem mentioned in the statement which you should listen to carefully. There is no word Hindu anywhere in it. BJP spokesperson Trivedi has forcibly inserted the word Hindu in it and has called Hindus dogs, hence all Hindus should take action against this hate spreading spokesperson.
Junagadh Superintendent of Police said that after the video of the inflammatory speech went viral on social media, a case was registered against Azhari and local organizers Mohammad Yusuf Malik and Azim Habib Odedra under IPS Act 153B (promoting enmity between different religious groups) and 505 (2 An FIR has been registered under IPC (Making statements conducive to public mischief). Malik and Habib have been arrested, while efforts are on to nab Azhari. Those arrested had taken permission from the police for the meeting saying that Azhari would talk about religion and spread awareness about de-addiction, but he gave an inflammatory speech.
