The Manali-Leh National Highway, which was closed last night due to flash floods in Jispa, Lahaul-Spiti district, Himachal Pradesh, has reopened to traffic after a massive rescue and restoration operation led by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) and the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Lahaul-Spiti.
The flash floods disrupted traffic movement and stranded approximately 1,000 vehicles on the highway for hours. BRO rescue teams, with assistance from the district administration and other agencies, immediately reached the affected area and rescued all stranded passengers.
According to Lahaul-Spiti Deputy Commissioner Kiran Bhadana, approximately 1,000 vehicles were evacuated from the affected area during the operation. No casualties were reported.
After continuous efforts throughout the night and this morning, the BRO restored the highway to traffic. The organization has deployed additional manpower and heavy machinery to the area to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow and provide immediate assistance to travelers passing through the area.
Officials have advised travelers to exercise caution while driving through the vulnerable section, as weather conditions in the high altitude region remain uncertain.
