Balasore: Crime against women continues to rise in Odisha as a fresh case of sexual assault has been reported from Balasore district of the State on Sunday.
A resident of Baliapal village under Jaleswar Police station limits of the district decided to go to the Silang market along with his wife to do some Aadhaar-related work yesterday.
In order to go to Silang, he asked for a bike from one Kalicharan Sahu, his relative whom he used call uncle. However, Kalicharan accompanied the couple (the man and his wife) saying that he too has some work in Silang.
After reaching their destination (Silang), they completed their works following which they decided to return home at the earliest possible time. Kalicharan, however, asked the man to accompany him by leaving his wife at the Silang market alone. Though he denied to go with him saying he won’t leave his wife alone, Kalicharan forcefully took him to a liquor shop and got him drunk so heavily that he could not even walk.
Later, Kalicharan returned to the place where the man’s wife was waiting for them and asked her to go with him on pretext of taking her to where her husband was. However, he took her to a lonely and dark place, where he raped her forcefully.
After reaching the house, the woman informed her family members about the sexual assault and with their support and advice filed a case at the Jaleswar Police station this morning. Based on which, cops started an investigation into the matter.
Police also is said to have conducted the woman’s medical examination and formed a special team to trace and nab Kalicharan, who fled from the village after learning that a case has been filed against him by the woman today. Further probe into to the matter is underway.
