Bhubaneswar: A man with three children allegedly looted Rs 3 lakh from a young woman by assuring to marry her after coming across with her through a matrimony site.
As alleged by the victim woman, one Deeptiraj Pattanaik met her through a matrimony site by identifying himself as a businessman and gradually cheated her and looted money from her.
While peaking to Kalinga TV, she said, “I came across him on a matrimony site and his name is Diptiraj Patnaik. He showed interest after getting impressed with my profile. Gradually, we spoke over the phone. I asked him some proof of what he was saying as several scams do happen these days. He sent me his father’s name, late Hemanta Kumar Patnaik and said me that they have a college in Bankual.”
“When visited the website of the college, I got to know that his father is the Founding Secretary of that college. He even took me to his house in Niladri Vihar. However, when I asked to meet someone close to him, he introduced me his best friend, who spoke well of him and advised me to trust him,” she added.
She further said, “His family members came to my house and even my family visited his houses. Some months after I spent with him, I found some people gathering infront of his house saying that he has taken lakhs of rupees from them. But his maid used to lie and lock the house saying he was not present in the house while I used to be inside the house along with him. Therefore, gradually I develop some doubts on him and when I asked about them, he advised not to mind all those things as they were related to his business. He used my credit card and bought a phone worth Rs 1.5 lakh so that he would invest in the stock market. Even his house is being run with my money. I pay for his maid and house management. But when I inquired, I got to know that every of his was fake. He was taking money from people by showing them a dummy app. But in reality he is doing nothing. He is sitting at home, doing nothing.”
She also said, “He targets girls with his fake narrations and IDs and takes money from them. Even when I visited his native Chandaneswar village in Balasore district, I got to known that he had married and had three children. His children, wife and younger brother live in a house at Saheed Nagar.”
“He had said me that one of his houses is being sold in Puri, following which he would give some money to me so that I would have some trust on him and he is not fake. However, after he returned from Puri he scolded me in an inebriated state. When I went to his house along with my brother, he started to attack physically and raised his hands. Soon, we informed the police about the matter and a PCR van took him to the police station. Police have assured to forward him to the court. I demanded stringent action should be taken against him,” she demanded.
Based on her complaint, police registered a case no.56, dtd.04.02.2025, U/s- 126(2)/75/115(2)/318(4) of the BNS and forwarded Deeptiraj Pattanaik to the court after arresting him.
