Man crushed to death by wild elephant in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: A man was crushed to death by a wild elephant in Tamil Nadu’s Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve (STR) on Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Mathiya (74).

According to the local people, a wild elephant entered the field. Mathiya tried to scare him by bursting crackers. However, the elephant came forward and crushed him to death.

The elephant remained standing at the spot for some time, due to which the local people could not immediately take Mathiya to the hospital. Later, forest officials reached the spot and removed the dead body after the elephant left the place.
