At the age of 102, the Chief Minister’s uncle cast his vote at the polling booth.

Tamil Nadu: An inspiring scene unfolded during the assembly elections when the uncle of the state’s Chief Minister, at the age of 102, reached the polling station and exercised his right to vote. This incident not only impressed the locals but also highlighted his deep faith in democracy.

This incident occurred in the Tirumalaam area, the hometown of Dayalu Ammal, the wife of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. Dayalu Ammal’s elder brother, G. Dakshinamoorthy, who is currently 102 years old, lives in the same town. Despite his old age, he considered voting his paramount responsibility.

A few days ago, during the election process, when officials who were going door-to-door to collect postal votes for elderly voters over 85 years of age approached him, Dakshinamoorthy refused to vote via postal ballot. He clearly told the officials that he wanted to cast his vote at his polling station, as this was his way of respecting and fulfilling his duty to democracy.

On Thursday, polling day, he fulfilled his pledge. With the help of a wheelchair, he reached the polling booth at Koil Thirumalam Panchayat Union Middle School, near his home. There, he calmly stood in line, cast his vote, and participated in the democratic process.

People at the polling station applauded the 102-year-old voter. Officials also described his dedication as an example of his strong faith in democracy. Reaching the polling station despite his age and physical limitations demonstrates his passion.

Dakshinamoorthy’s initiative has become an inspiration for youth and other segments of society. This incident demonstrates that participation in democracy is not dependent on age, but rather on the responsibility and willpower of citizens.

Locals say his action is a message to future generations that voting is not just a right but also an important duty that every citizen must fulfill.
