Make NFTI a Centre of Excellence: Union Minister

ITANAGAR: Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Tourism, Suresh Gopi, stressed the need for all stakeholders in the state to make NFTI a centre of excellence and a national asset in this part of the country. The Union Minister was on a whirlwind tour of Arunachal Pradesh to review the functioning of the Film and Television Institute (FTI).

During a meeting with the state’s minister for trade and commerce, industries, and skill development, along with officials from various departments here on Wednesday, the union minister referred to the presence of important institutions such as FTI, NIT, and the law college, and stressed the need for a police outpost in the area to maintain law and order. He stated that “any turmoil can have a national impact, and parents sending their children to these institutions have high hopes and aspirations.”

The minister also emphasized the urgent need for better connectivity and water supply facilities. “Tourism in this region is promising but remains largely untapped,” he said, while also stressing the importance of skill development programmes for rural people to help them become self-sustainable.

Highlighting the multiple uses and benefits of banana peels, the minister gave a practical demonstration of their productive uses at the Civil Secretariat Park.

During the meeting, the minister for trade and commerce, industries, and IPR assured all possible efforts for the growth and development of FTI and for addressing the other issues raised during the discussion.

Education commissioner Amjad Tak, Home and IPR commissioner H. Nyali Ete, commissioner of industries, textiles and skill development Mimum Tayeng, tourism secretary R. Ngowa, IGP Chukhu Apa, directors, the dean, and other faculty members of FTI were present on the occasion.
