Ludhiana: Police Division 7 has registered a case against Jagdish Singh, a resident of Akalia village in Mansa district, in connection with the death of a lawyer who was in a live-in relationship with him. The deceased, Diljot Sharma, was a resident of Ralla village in Mansa. The woman’s body was found in suspicious circumstances on January 5 on Tajpur Road here. A suicide note was also recovered from her body, which mentioned the names of Jagdish and another woman. Investigating officer ASI Krishan Lal said that an FIR has been registered against Jagdish under Section 108 of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) based on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother, Veerpal Kaur. He said that the accused would be arrested soon. When the family members received the news of Diljot’s death on January 5, they reached Ludhiana from Mansa.
Her mother said that her 25-year-old daughter had come to Ludhiana from Mansa about a year and a half ago. She was actively involved in legal matters related to laborers’ rights. During this time, Diljot came into contact with Jagdish, the president of a labor union. According to her family, they were in a live-in relationship. Veerpal Kaur alleged that her daughter did not die of a sudden illness, but was murdered. The family also expressed serious doubts about the contents of the suicide note. The victim’s mother further alleged that Jagdish had started living with another woman, which often led to arguments between him and her daughter. She accused Jagdish of being responsible for her daughter’s death. On the other hand, a close friend of the deceased had earlier told the police that Diljot was under mental stress and might have taken this extreme step herself. After 25 days of investigation, the police have registered a case against him under sections related to abetment of suicide. Investigating officer Krishan Lal said that further investigation in the case is underway.
