Life Style: Excessive use of smartphone is not good for new moms

Lifestyle: A new mom being busy on a smartphone for too long can prove to be harmful for the newborn. In fact, a study has been published in the journal Child Development, which includes new mothers and babies. If you are also a new mother or are about to reach this stage of life, then this news is for you. The study explains how every minute spent on a smartphone can become a big problem in the development of newborns. Let’s know about it. Researchers made a shocking claim

Researchers at Texas University claimed that when new moms use smartphones, they talk to their children up to 26% less. In the study, both mother and father have been advised to be ‘aware’ of their child’s needs while messaging or calling or scrolling social media.

Mother-child conversation decreases

Let us tell you that the researchers have included new moms and children in this study. During this time, the babies wore small audio recorders, while logs were used to monitor their new mother’s phone usage. The team, after analysing 16,000 minutes of synchronised data, concluded that if the mother is busy on the phone for one minute, she speaks 16% fewer words to the child. As this duration increases, the children’s conversation with the mother decreases. If we look at the average of this analysis, there is a decrease of about 26% in the conversation between the mother and the newborns.

Conversation is important from an early age

According to the researchers, how long you are using the mobile phone also affects this process. Especially during 9-10 am, 12-1 pm or 3-4 pm, if the mother talks less to the children, then their ability to learn words becomes weak. From the earlier research, the team found that it is important to talk to the babies from a very young age because it improves their language and vocabulary.

Conversation helps the newborn
The study states that the conversation of parents helps the newborn develop language and he also learns to speak words easily. The adults included in this study published in the journal Child Development used smartphones for 4.4 hours in a 12-hour period, which the researchers expressed a lot of concern about. The study states that if parents talk to the newborn enough, their language develops rapidly.
