Jagatsinghpur: Kujanga Police Station IIC Tapan Kumar Nahak was arrested on Wednesday on charges of sexually assaulting a female homeguard in Jagatsinghpur recently.
Nahak was arrested barely an hour after Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania (YB Khurania) suspended him. The DGP had said that the IIC was suspended as disciplinary proceeding is being contemplated against him after a complaint was received against him for his gross misconduct and abuse of official position.
“Whereas, a complaint has been received against Inspector Tapan Kumar Nahak, Ex-IIC of Kujanga PS Jagatsinghpur district for his gross misconduct and abuse of official position and a disciplinary proceeding is being contemplated,” read a notification issued by the DGP.
“In the interest of public service and to ensure fairness in enquiry, I therefore, in exercise of power conferred under Rule 840 of PMR 1940 place the said Inspector Tapan Kumar Nahak under suspension with immediate effect. During the period the order remains in force, he will remain under the disciplinary control of D.I.G. of Police, CR, Cuttack and draw SA and DA as admissible under Rule 90 of Odisha Service Code,” it added.
It is to be noted there that a young female homeguard had filed a complaint at Jagatsinghpur Town Police Station on Monday alleging that Nahak, who is already married and has children, had physical intimacy with her on pretext of marriage when he was working as an ASI of Jagatsinghpur Town Police Station while she was working as a writer some years ago. However, Nahak allegedly avoided her after being transferred as the IIC of the Kujang Police station.
Nahak fled Kujang Police station after learning that a case was registered against him. However, based on the Homeguard’s complaint, a special team of the Jagatsinghpur Police soon swung into action and detained him from near Khurda on Tuesday.
Today, he was arrested and forwarded to the court which denied him bail and sent him to the Alipingal Sub-Jail.
