Kerala: Former minister and Congress leader M.T. Padma (81) passed away. She died in Mumbai due to prolonged illness. She lived in Mumbai with her daughter for a long time. The body will be brought to Kozhikode on Wednesday. Fisheries-Rural Development Registration Minister in Karunakaran Cabinet and MLA from Koyilandy in 1987 and 1991. M.T. Padma was the third woman minister of Kerala.
Padma made her political debut through KSU while studying in law college. She held the titles of KSU district vice-president and state president. KPCC member, Mahila Congress state general secretary, Sevadal Family Welfare Committee member, Kozhikode DCC treasurer and secretary. In 2004, she contested Lok Sabha elections from Vadakara but was unsuccessful. In 2013, she became the opposition leader in Kozhikode Corporation.
