Kendrapara: Mahu Co-operative Society Secretary Dhirendra Mohanty nabbed by Odisha Vigilance

Aul: Dhirendra Mohanty, the Secretary of Mahu Co-operative Society in Aul Block of Kendrapara district in Odisha has been nabbed by Odisha Vigilance today while taking bribe Rs 10,000/- from a farmer.

As per reports, today i.e on 20.08.2025, a short while ago, Dhirendra Mohanty, Secretary, Mahu Co-operative Society, Aul Block, Dist- Kendrapara has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance.

He was apprehended while demanding and taking bribe of Rs.10,000 (Ten thousand) from a loanee farmer (complainant) at his office to hand over loan passbook and cheque book for with drawl of loan amount already granted in favour of the complainant and his father.

The complainant and his father were granted Rs.75,000 agricultural loan from the society on 12.08.2025. Despite several requests made by the complainant to provide loan passbook and cheque book, accused Mohanty was delaying without any reason. Rather, he was demanding bribe Rs.20,000 from the complainant to provide the above documents.

The complainant being a poor farmer and loanee expressed his inability to pay the demanded bribe Rs 20,000. After negotiation, accused Mohanty, Secretary reduced the bribe amount to Rs.10,000 and threatened the complainant that unless he was paid the bribe amount Rs.10,000 by 20.08. 2025, he would not hand over the cheque book and Loan pass book.

Left with no option, the complainant reported the matter to Vigilance authorities alleging harassment by Mohanty, Secretary.

Following this, Vigilance Officers nabbed accused Mohanty today, while taking bribe Rs.10,000 from the complainant. The entire tainted bribe money Rs.10,000 has been recovered from the possession of accused Mohanty and seized.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations linked to Mohanty, Secretary from DA angle.

In this connection, Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No.23 dt.19.08.2025 U/s-7 PC Act, (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered against accused Mohanty, Secretary.

Investigation of the matter is in progress. Detailed report awaited.
