Kangra: Gas crisis raises concerns for hotel and homestay businesses

Himachal Pradesh: A severe LPG shortage has created a crisis for the tourism business in Bir. Many hotel and homestay owners in the area are now worried as the gas needed for cooking and customer service is not available. This is not only affecting daily operations but also negatively impacting tourist satisfaction and business income. According to local businesses, the supply of LPG has become extremely erratic over the past few weeks. Hotel and homestay owners are now forced to rely on small cylinders, which are not sufficient for long periods. Raju Sharma, who runs a hotel in Bir, said, “Our restaurant and kitchen operations are now being affected. At times, we have to procure gas from local stores, which increases costs and impacts tourist service.”
The LPG shortage in the Bir tourism industry has created a challenging situation for hotel owners. Sumit Kumari, a local homestay operator, said, “Tourists primarily come to stay in our homes, and cooking is essential for their convenience. Due to the lack of gas, we have to limit our menus. This is impacting the customer experience.” The local trade association and the tourism department have also highlighted the crisis. They say the LPG shortage is directly impacting the tourism industry in the region, and a solution is essential. Officials say the problem has arisen due to a disruption in the supply chain, and the government and distribution agencies are working to resolve it quickly.
The tourism business in Beer is not only a source of local employment but also strengthens the region’s economic situation. Problems in hotels and homestays could impact local incomes. Experts say that if the LPG supply is not stabilized, the tourism business could decline in the long term and lead to a job crisis. The tourism department has planned additional gas supplies in the region as emergency measures to minimize inconvenience to businesses and tourists. The department has also requested the local people to use gas as per requirement and avoid unnecessary losses.
