Jammu-Srinagar National Highway blocked due to falling stones

Srinagar: Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was blocked on Saturday due to stone falling in Ramban district due to incessant rain. Transport department officials said the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed due to stone pelting in Ramban district. “Passengers are suggested to contact the traffic control room before starting their journey,” officials said. The nearly 300 km long road is Kashmir’s lifeline for the landlocked valley. All essential commodities are brought to the valley through this highway. The stretch of this highway between Banihal and Ramban town is the most sensitive part. The highway often gets blocked due to problems like landslides, stone falling and ground subsidence.
