Jalandhar: Migrant found dead under mysterious circumstances

Jalandhar: The body of Raju, a migrant labourer from West Bengal, was found near Basheerpura Bridge near the railway line on Thursday morning under mysterious circumstances. The body was spotted by passersby and immediately informed the railway police. GRP officials reached the spot and took the body into custody. The body was taken to the civil hospital for medical examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. According to the preliminary report of the police, Raju was working as a watchman in the Basheerpura area for several months. GRP station in-charge Palwinder Singh said that the body was found soaked in blood and had several injury marks on it.

He said, “We are investigating the case from every angle and further action will depend on the statements of the deceased’s family, which will arrive by this evening.” He said that they are looking for various clues. When asked about the possibility of murder, he said that it is too early to draw any conclusion. Nothing can be said right now. “The death could be accidental, especially since there was construction work going on near the site. However, we are carefully investigating all aspects, including possible personal rivalry or animosity of Raju,” he said, adding that they are also investigating Raju’s activities and the persons he came in contact with before his death.
