Jalandhar: A major operation by the Central Excise Department at a famous and old sweet shop in Goraya has caused concern among traders and residents. The raid, which lasted for approximately 23 hours, was conducted simultaneously at the sweet shop, a residential property, and a factory associated with the business, making it one of the largest operations of its kind in the area in recent times. According to sources, the Central Excise team arrived at the sweet shop located at the main chowk in Goraya following a complaint. The operation continued throughout the night and concluded the following afternoon. The team reportedly comprised two superintendents, four inspectors, and about two dozen officers, along with forensic personnel to conduct a detailed examination of financial and digital records.
During the search, officials seized crucial documents as well as electronic equipment, including two computers, a DVR, and a mobile phone. In addition, several lakhs of rupees in cash were seized, and a locker associated with the business was sealed. Sources said that the entire search operation was videographed by the department as per standard procedure. Police personnel were present throughout the operation to maintain law and order. Entry to the shop was strictly restricted, and no customers or outsiders were allowed inside during the raid. A minor altercation reportedly occurred between some customers and the police officers accompanying the team, although the situation was brought under control without further incident. It has also been learned that the shop owner has been summoned to the department’s office on Monday for further questioning and clarification regarding the seized items.
