Jalandhar: The first advance embankment that broke during the floods in the Baupur Mand area has now been repaired through collective efforts. A breach occurred in this advance embankment on the night of August 10th, causing water from the Beas River to flood the Baupur Mand area, causing widespread devastation. Efforts to strengthen the embankment continued today. Led by Rajya Sabha member and environmentalist Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, more than 15 tractors brought soil from nearby fields to the embankment. A large excavator was also deployed to strengthen the embankment. In Baupur Mand, 10 young men from Ramgarh village in Nabha tehsil of Patiala district arrived with tractors and diesel to help flood-affected farmers restore their land. Manjit Singh and Gurkirat Singh said they also brought two trolleys of fodder for their animals. He explained that inspired by Sant Seechewal’s continuous relief work since day one, his 10-member team has come here in full solidarity with Seechewal’s call to serve in the flood-affected areas. The youth stated that they would stay for two days and return to assist the affected farmers. Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal expressed his gratitude to the youth and local communities who worked tirelessly day and night to rebuild the embankment. He said that youth possess immense power, which only needs proper guidance. He recalled that even during the 2019 and 2023 floods, the timely construction of embankments was largely possible due to the contributions of the youth. Seechewal further stated that the strength of the young generation holds the power to rebuild flood-ravaged Punjab and put it back on its feet.
