Jalandhar: The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has registered charges against an NRI who allegedly obtained an immigration licence from the administration through fraudulent means. The suspect has been identified as Anmoldeep Singh, a Canadian citizen and originally a resident of Vivekanand Park in Maqsudan area here. Investigation into his arrest is currently underway. A case has been registered against Singh at the Navi Baradari police station under sections 13 (1) and 16 of the Punjab Travel Profession Regulation Act and section 177 of the BNS. According to sources, the investigation was initiated after a formal complaint was filed before the Jalandhar deputy commissioner (DC), seeking an inquiry into the validity of Singh’s immigration licence and its subsequent cancellation.
The investigation revealed that Singh, a Canadian resident, had obtained the immigration licence illegally. The administration officials began investigating the case after the complaint was originally filed in April last year. According to the FIR, Singh runs an immigration consultancy called Canadian Immigration Consultants located at AGI Business Centre on Gadha Road here. The FIR states that Singh obtained a government licence by providing false information, a claim which was confirmed during the administration’s investigation. Upon confirmation of the allegations, legal advice was sought from the District Attorney (DA), Legal. A report was then prepared and submitted to the police, following which an immediate case was registered against Singh. SHO of Navi Baradari police station Kamaljit Singh said, “The FIR was registered on Friday after receiving a report from the district administration in this regard. Further investigation into the matter is underway. Efforts are on to trace the suspect.”
