Jalandhar: Case of stone pelting registered against former sarpanch and his wife

Jalandhar: In the case of stone pelting in village Khanpur yesterday, the police has registered a case against eight people including the former sarpanch, his wife and a woman. Apart from this, 90 unidentified people are accused of stone pelting. No arrest has been made yet. According to the FIR lodged by the police, constable Rohit Mahimi told the police that on the evening of October 15, at around 6:30 pm, he received information that a dispute has taken place at a polling booth in Khanpur village and an unsuccessful candidate is creating a ruckus with his supporters and the polling personnel are not being allowed to come out of the polling booth.
The SDM’s car was also stopped. On receiving the information, the police reached Khanpur. DSP Jaspreet Singh was already present there. He alleged that when the polling party was taken out from there, former sarpanch Ashok Kumar, his wife who has lost the sarpanch election, along with Khanpur resident Bahadur Singh, Surjit Singh, Balveer Singh, Dr. Harbhajan Mahimi, Satnam Master and another woman Jassi and 80-90 other people started pelting stones at the police. Rohit and SHO Baljinder Singh were injured in this. Meanwhile, when SP Major Singh also reached there, people attacked his car with bricks, due to which the glass of his car broke. Seeing the situation going out of control, the police had to fire in the air to save themselves and drive the people away from there.
