Jalandhar: Nakodar police have registered a criminal case against an individual who allegedly attempted to extort money by threatening to kill someone over a phone call. The case was registered in Nakodar based on a complaint filed by Surinder Singh Toor, a resident of Mund village near Nakodar. According to the police, the complainant stated that an unknown caller contacted him on his phone number and demanded 50,000 pounds. During the call, the accused allegedly threatened to kill the complainant and his family members if the demand was not met, causing fear and panic.
DSP Onkar Singh Brar stated that taking the matter seriously, the police have registered an FIR under Sections 308(5) and 351(2) of the BNS and Sections 386 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertain to extortion and criminal intimidation. The case has been registered against an unknown person, and an initial investigation has been launched. The police are examining call records, WhatsApp details, and other digital evidence to ascertain the identity of the accused. Officials said that all possible angles are being investigated, and strict action will be taken once the suspect is identified.
