Itanagar: Confluence of discipline and leadership, NCC training camp concludes

ITANAGAR : The 1 Arunachal Pradesh Battalion National Cadet Corps (1 AP Bn NCC) concluded its final combined annual training camp (CATC – 68)-cum-Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme (YAMS) programme for the training year 2026-27 on Friday, it stated in a release.

The 10-day camp was in effect from 24 June to 3 July at Rajiv Gandhi Government Polytechnic College here. A total of 247 NCC cadets participated in the camp, under the leadership of the commanding officer of the 1 AP Battalion NCC.

In a display of undeterred spirit and remarkable determination, many of the cadets braved challenging road conditions to reach the camp location from their remote hometowns, with some even undertaking lengthy detours due to weather-related disruptions, the release said.

The camp was conducted under the leadership of the CO of the 1 AP Battalion NCC, with support from 10 military staff, four associate NCC officers, and one caretaker officer, who oversaw the training and welfare of the cadets.

The participants’ morale received a significant boost during the camp with the visit of NCC Group HQ Tezpur Commander, Brigadier Mayank Vaid, who interacted with the cadets and commended their determination, the release said.

The camp was conducted to familiarise the cadets with the discipline, routine and ethos of military-style camp life. The training module offered cadets a balanced blend of foundational military training and personality development activities. Activities including physical training, field craft and battle craft, small arms firing, musketry, weapons display, sword drill, lectures by distinguished personalities, yoga and games were incorporated into the curriculum for the holistic development of the cadets, it said.

In addition to the regular training programme, the camp also conducted training under the YAMS, aimed at equipping the cadets with essential disaster preparedness and emergency response skills. The training was led by certified instructors from the State Disaster Management Authority, which enabled the cadets to acquire practical skills in disaster risk reduction and crisis response.

As part of the programme, the cadets underwent structured training in basic disaster response, relief and rescue operations, and emergency management techniques to handle situations such as floods, cloudbursts, and earthquakes.

Towards the conclusion of the camp, ‘Survival Day’ and ‘Fun Day’ were introduced to provide the cadets with respite from the intensive training schedule. The activities were designed to foster camaraderie and teamwork while promoting cultural integration through the sharing and appreciation of traditional cuisines from the region in an engaging and enjoyable experience.

Through its diverse training activities, the camp was successful in contributing to the overall development of the NCC cadets, the release said.
